NOVI SAD
for European Youth Capital 2018

The title European Youth Capital is awarded to a European city for a period of one year. The city and its young people, which becomes European Youth Centre, get the opportunity, through numerous programs and projects, to demonstrate the cultural, social, political and economic life and development. Youth Capital of Europe encourages the application of new ideas and innovative projects, given the active, creative participation of young people in society with the aim of strengthening relations between the European institutions and local level, as well as encouraging youth participation at the local level for the implementation of the common objectives of European policy for youth.

Novi Sad is a city of young people: administrative, economic, cultural, scientific and tourist center of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. City of Novi Sad has about 78,000 young people aged 14 to 30 years. Also, Novi Sad has one public and two private universities, that counts about 50,000 students from all cities in the region. Novi Sad has more than 30 high schools, and more than 100 organizations of civil society, which gathers a large number of young people.

University of Novi Sad Youth Theatre, Student Cultural Center, NOMUS, Rhythm Europe, Cinemania, fair youth tourism - Youth Fair, EXIT ... are just pieces of the puzzle which give us, by all criteria, the right to believe that Novi Sad has reasonable chance of becoming a Youth Capital of Europe in 2018.

The project Novi Sad - Youth Capital of Europe 2018 (OPENS2018) will fully promote the values that are listed as priorities in the national strategy for youth, the Youth Law of the Republic of Serbia, the Action Plan of youth policy AP Vojvodina and the Local Action Plan of the City of Novi Sad.

Novi Sad - Youth Capital of Europe 2018 (OPENS2018) aims to support young people to become proactive initiators of positive changes and innovative ideas in society, both in the city of Novi Sad and at national, regional and international levels. The candidacy of Novi Sad as youth capital of Europe is an invitation to young people to actively participate in their own development and construction of its own independence. That is why the motto candidacy is “Live life.”
